Purplechrome Forest with Drake Avenue
Click here to read the blog I posted about the day before this shoot for more background on the short van camping adventure I went on with Drake Avenue. We woke up early and drove to this nature preserve that was mostly empty since we were there in the morning on a weekday. It was mostly flat, with acres of pine trees, and a swamp area that we didn’t even get to. We hiked out for a bit, looking for an interesting backdrop for some photos, but didn’t even get that far down the trail because the place was SWARMING with GIANT mosquitoes. We were both being eaten alive, and it got worse the further we went. I usually don’t have many issues with mosquitoes because they don’t seem to like me that much, thank goodness, but they were all over both of us and Sean was having an especially hard time with them. We found this beautiful tree with gorgeous visible roots that was close to a small bridge and a stairway and decided it was the perfect place to shoot. We shot as quickly as we could and then immediately headed back to the van. The mosquitoes were relentless! You can watch us struggling with them in the BTS videos I’ve uploaded. My mosquito bites diminished pretty fast, but Sean is more easily irritated by them so he dealt with well over 50 bites for a few days until they healed. I’m so thankful he was willing to take these photos with me despite the onslaught of mosquito bites he was subjected to! A true dedicated artist.
