Last weekend we went to the NC mountains with our friend Sean (aka Drake Avenue) to make lots of waterfall/nature nudes. Antisocialdisposition and I got to the campground Saturday night around 9pm (1 hour before closing and quiet hours) and set up our tent and a hammock for Sean. We tried sleeping some until Sean got there (he was shooting a wedding and couldn’t leave until about 10pm which that had him getting to camp around 1:30am) but our fellow campers next to us were drunkenly loud and playing music until the wee hours of the morning. We asked them nicely (twice) to quiet down, and the guy on the other side of us yelled across to them “it’s after quiet hours, BE QUIET, and have some respect” (something along those lines), but they continued to be drunkenly loud until probably about 2am. Grrr.

We got up at 5:30am on Sunday to shoot at a well-known waterfall before anyone else got there. We had several hours with no interruptions, people didn’t start showing up until about 10am! It was great to be able to shoot uninterrupted for that long, I was honestly expecting people to start showing up sooner than they did. The big waterfall was in The Hunger Games and has become more popular than it already was since being in the movie. Remember the scene where Katniss finds Peeta near a waterfall and he had painted his face for camouflage? That was at the bottom of the big waterfall in some of these photos! The photos we took were all around the middle section of the falls and at another waterfall in a different part of the park later in the day.

Sean brought his fancy panoramic pinhole camera to work on a new series he just started. He mentioned he wants to keep those images off the internet and have them only viewable in print or book form so follow him on social media to see when that’s available.

Photos of AD were taken by me, photos of me were taken by AD, and photos of AD & I together were taken by Sean. =]

Wow, time has flown and so much has happened! We left at about 6am on Saturday. We drove 1575 miles in 32 hours. Two time zones over we arrived in Denver (Sunday). Before meeting up with the friends we’re staying with we went to Red Rocks, which was beautiful of course. We hung out with our friends on Monday. Tuesday we were going to hike to Lake Isabelle but about 1000 feet up the mountain my car’s alternator decided to die. We spent the rest of the day getting that fixed. Hooray. The place we took it to was wonderful and drove us to a nearby park while we waited for them to fix it. The park ended up being a locked fenced baseball field and it started raining soon after we got there. We jumped the fence and found an unlocked door which ended up being the electrical room. We hung out in there until the rain stopped then we chilled on the bleachers the rest of the time. Once the car was fixed we drove around Boulder for a bit. Wednesday/yesterday we drove to Rocky Mountain National Park and hiked about 5 or 6 miles on Timber Lake trail. We camped overnight and today we hiked over 10 miles from Green Mountain trail to Granite Falls. Omg we are so tired and sore! That was the longest hike we’ve ever done in one day. We took a few rolls of film yesterday and today and I’m looking forward to getting them developed!

    ———-

We had to stop and get a few photos here yesterday on our way to Black Canyon of the Gunnison. We even got a couple of quick nudes on film! Black Canyon is so amazing. Photos and words cannot describe the enormity, magnificence, and wonder of this place. We took some landscapes and nudes (and the sunset!) and camped here last night. We got up early enough to shoot some sunrise nudes. I’m so anxious to see all this film!!! We just showered at a truck stop and are getting lunch before heading to Arches National Park!

    ———-

We made it to Utah yesterday and spent the night next to the Colorado River. Camping in the canyon we could see so many stars! Tonight we’ll be camping in a different section of the canyon and getting up super early (again) for more sunrise nudes. Most of the nudes are on film but we’re trying to get some digital samples to share until we get the film developed.

    ———-

We camped in the canyon again last night after our sunset hike/shoot at Dead Horse Point State Park. We’ve really been roughing it: living out of my car, sleeping in a tent, brushing our teeth at gas stations, wearing the same clothes 2 days in a row. I’ve actually really loved it even though some parts have been stressful. We don’t even know where we’re sleeping tonight yet! But that’s part of the adventure. 😊

Hi guys! I’m currently in the back of my car attempting to get some sleep while we drive through Amarillo and northern Texas on our way back home to Charlotte. I’m sad that our epic road trip is almost over but all good things must come to an end, right? I wasn’t able to post as much as I wanted while we were gone. I didn’t think beforehand that we would be mostly in national parks and therefore wouldn’t have much signal at all. But! Now that we’re on the road 4G is on and I’m able to post stuff to pass the time! Don’t worry, I won’t totally flood your patreon feed/email. I just want to share a couple more photos of the places we’ve been since I last posted. Once we get back home I’ll start taking batches of film to get developed and I’ll be able to share so much more from the trip! I have several rolls that I used to take landscapes that are earmarked to be doubled over with self portraits or a model so Colorado & Utah will show up on here for a while. Yay!

    ———-

AD told me this bed was his new best friend. I don’t blame him, it was the first real bed we slept in in 2 weeks. Our last night we decided to splurge and stay at a bed & breakfast called Kelly Place outside of Mesa Verde National Park. One of the best decisions ever! It felt amazing to sleep in a bed and have an actual bathroom. The breakfast the next morning was delicious! This B&B is special because it’s also an archaeological site with ancient Puebloan kivas, pueblos, and other artifacts on the property. They give a booklet to all guests so they are able to do a self guided tour around the property and even encourage guests to enter the kivas! I have a video from inside one of the kivas that I’ll upload to the Smugmug once we get home. Kivas are ancient Puebloan sacred spaces that were used for religious and ceremonial purposes. They are circular underground rooms with a fire pit that you enter from above using a ladder. The thing that impressed me the most was the intricate way they stacked the logs for the roof. I don’t have a photo because it was too dark inside but wait for that video! I’ll be doing a lot of uploading this weekend after we get home.

Got home safe and sound yesterday! Our trip by the numbers:

    32 hours driving there
    5 national parks
    2 state parks
    33 miles hiking beautiful landscapes
    15 rolls of 35mm film
    5 nights with friends
    5 nights in a tent
    3 nights in a car
    1 night in a B&B
    42 hours driving back
    5100 total miles driven

So sad that it’s over but glad to be home.

  • Doubles and slide film with Hannah Elizabeth

Earlier this year Hannah Elizabeth, Antisocialdisposition and I met at our friend Michael O’Neill‘s (who is also a photographer!) condo that was empty because he had it on the market but it hadn’t sold yet. We all took turns photographing each other… you might remember the photos that Hannah took of me & AD that I’ve already shared. It was a really great afternoon of creating and spending time together. I’ve said it before, but I’m so thankful that there are some wonderful creatives that live here in Charlotte with me!
CURRENTLY: I’m settling into my new/old house after moving back into my childhood home with my parents last weekend. I’m really loving being back here again after 9 years of living elsewhere, and since my parents are still on their own cross country road trip adventure I’ve had the house to myself, which has been really nice. They’re coming back home sometime late December and I’m honestly just so excited to see them and live with them again! Instead of moving back into my old childhood bedroom, my new bedroom is in the sunroom which has 3 out of 4 walls that are covered in windows, and I have my own entrance, AND I’m closest to our outside patio/backyard oasis! I absolutely love it, I feel like I’m even closer to nature and I am really enjoying the super quick access outside. I still have some decorating to do (I’m gonna FILL UP the one wall with art!), but I’m basically done unpacking and my room feels so cozy already!

  • Dream Room with Antisocialdisposition

If you’ve been a member for a while you probably remember all the photosets I’ve shared from the creative day at Durham Fruit with Antisocialdisposition, Roarie Yum, and Mikki Marvel. This is the LAST PHOTOSET from that day! Whew! We created so much and it was such a fun day!
CURRENTLY: I still am thinking about making vlogs to share but I’m realizing it’s a LOT of work and I don’t know if I can feasibly make it happen every week. Maybe I will just create extra videos for All Access members? I haven’t decided! For now, I’ll keep typing up blog posts until I figure it out. Oh, did I mention I finally started a youtube channel?!
I’ve been feeling like I’m in a really transitional phase (still haha, it’s been going on for over a year now) and I don’t know when things will feel “normal” again. What even is normal?! I used to be very scheduled and plan things months ahead and it would stress me out to change plans… and now I’m purposefully NOT scheduling things far out because now I know how much can change within the span of a month (or a week to be honest) and I don’t want to commit to something that I potentially might have to back out of later. It feels really good to be more intuitive, flexible, and protective of my schedule. How do you use your schedule in a way that feels good for you?

  • Double Exposures!!! <3

I feel like I’m always talking about double exposures… well, probably because I am. I love them. They’re my favorite kind of image to create. They’re magickal. They’re serendipitous. They’re always a surprise and I love giving control to the universe.

You might be wondering… what the heck is a double exposure?!

A double exposure is when two (or more) images are taken on the same piece of film. When two (or more) images are superimposed to create a single image. A lot of people do this with photoshop or fancy apps now, but the kind of double exposures that *I* am always talking about are taken on FILM. Analogue. 35mm or medium format film. These are TRULY magickal to me.

I took my first double exposure on accident, in a Holga camera (does anyone remember those?!). I took a photo, forgot to wind the film, and took another photo. The two images overlapped each other to create one single image! I was amazed and fell in love immediately.

You mean I can take a photo of a landscape, and then take a photo of a person in a studio or an empty room or next to a tree, and the end result makes the person look like they’re IN the landscape?! THEY BECOME A PART OF THE LANDSCAPE?! Hell YES!!!

If you know me or if you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know that I am ecosexual and that the earth, the environment, natural landscapes are where my heart is, where my SOUL is. The fact that I am able to take images that make it look like people BECOME A PART OF the environment makes me so incredibly happy. Being one with ferns, waterfalls as shimmering “clothes”, a crown of butterflies in flight.

It’s important for me to show people that we are not separate from the earth, we are a part of it. We are all connected and this planet, our home, everything we’ve ever known, is the MOST IMPORTANT thing and needs to be loved, protected, cherished. I hope that my double exposures help people see that.

Okay, enough explanation. The images will tell you more than I ever could with words.
